Welcome to the Internet’s #1 Medicare Supplemental Insurance Source!

At MedicareSupplementalInsurance.com, our passion is to provide you with the best information to help you find the best supplemental insurance policy possible. With each person having unique needs and desires, we provide options that will fit even the most customized health needs. If you’re new to Medicare or need to make changes to your existing plan, you should learn about Medicare updates for 2013-2014.

Supplemental Healthcare

Medicare supplement plans are add-ons that you will use in addition to your Medicare health policy. These supplements will create coverage for your health where basic Medicare coverage falls short. Medicare plans - Part A and Part B - do not cover all of your health needs and leave “gaps” in your plan. The coverage provided by the government is extremely affordable and beneficial, but tend to cover only 80% of your medical expenses. For this reason, there are private insurance options available for people such as yourself. These private options make it easy for Medicare recipients to find the perfect plan to meet only the needs that they have, and nothing more.

Private Medicare supplemental insurance covers the costs that can add up quickly. Costs like deductibles, copays, prescriptions, and other expenses can add up over time. With Medicare alone, you may be required to cover these expenses, which could provide a great financial hardship. Medicare supplement plans will help to cover the costs of all of these.

Medigap policies are easy for seniors to manage and apply for because you can be approved without a medical exam. During the period of time known as the “Guaranteed Issue Period,” seniors are able to qualify for Medicare supplement plans without a health examination. Once seniors are enrolled, their beneficiary will be able to auto-renew as well. The “guaranteed issue” period is a great time for any senior to enroll, especially those with pre-existing conditions. If you enroll during this time period, you also lock your premiums in, meaning that the cost will not go up.

How to Read the Following Chart

Check marks in the chart denote a coverage of 100% of the described Medigap benefit. If there is no check mark and instead a percentage marker, Medigap policies on each plan cover up to that percentage for the according benefit provision. If a box is blank, the Medigap policy is not sufficient for that benefit. You should also note that Medigap plans from MedicareSupplementalInsurance.com providers only cover your coninsurance premiums if you have already paid the deductible.

Medicare Plans and Medigap

Medicare plans are broken down into four main sections, with each section covering certain aspects of your health and health related needs. Each one exists for a certain purpose and offers coverage specialties that will help you make an informed purchase decision. Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers any services that you might receive in an inpatient center, such as a hospital, nursing facility, hospice or home care. Part B (Medical Insurance) covers your doctor’s visits, outpatient care, and some preventative treatments. Part C is your Medicare Advantage policy, which provides some private insurance companies for you to choose from if you don’t want Medicare. Part D covers your prescription costs. Most people become eligible for Medicare coverage once they turn 65 years old. If you are 64, you can apply for a Medicare Advantage Plan and/or Part C and D of Medicare up to three months before your 65th birthday. You can also apply for Medicare if you are disabled and under the age of 65, but this is limited to those who have already received social security or RBR benefits. If you are both 65 and disabled, you can cancel your Medicare Advantage plan at any time and enroll in Medicare.

Open Enrollment 2012

Open enrollment is a short period of time each year where those who qualify for Medicare are able to make changes to their Medicare supplement plans quickly and easily. During this time, you are able to add additional services to your plan, remove any unnecessary services, enroll in a plan, or cancel your Medicare supplement plan entirely. For 2013, open enrollment is from October 15, 2013 until December 7, 2013. Although this time period is specifically designed to allow you to change your plan, there are still special limitations that differ depending on location and need. Be sure to check with your policy provider to find out if there are any limitations to the changes which you desire to make.
