Medigap Policy F is the most popular of the Medigap policies. Of the many Medigap policies, only Plans F and G cover Medicare excess charges, which is the difference between what a medical provider charges a patient and what Medicare will actually cover. The policy covers Medicare part A co insurance payments, including coverage for a full year after Medicare benefits expire. It will also pay part B co insurance, as well as the co payments for hospital outpatient services. Plan F provides the option for a high deductible plan. If a patient chooses this option, they will sustain the first $2,000 in health care cost before the plan will begin coverage. This option can lower premiums significantly, as rates for Plan F are among the highest for the supplemental Medicare plans.
